Why ads get disapproved
The four policies behind most disapprovals
Google Ads review is largely automated, and the automated pass compares three things: the ad text, the destination page, and the policy set for your vertical. Most disapprovals are a mismatch between the first two — a claim the landing page does not visibly support, or a URL that does not lead where the headline says it does.
The restricted categories — healthcare, financial services, gambling, alcohol — add a second layer: certification. An uncertified advertiser in those verticals gets disapproved on category alone, no matter how careful the wording is.
If your ad has already been disapproved, the Google ad disapproval reasons pages break down each message and the fix. For EU campaigns, the claim rules that Google review does not apply are covered in Google Ads compliance and EU advertising claims.
FAQ
Google Ads policy — questions
Is there an official Google Ads policy checker?
No. Google checks policy compliance during ad review after you submit, and the account-level policy manager only reports issues on ads already created. There is no pre-submission checker inside Google Ads, which is why the disapproval is usually the first signal you get.
Why was my Google ad disapproved for misrepresentation?
Misrepresentation covers unsubstantiated claims, unclear pricing and billing, missing business information, and a mismatch between the ad and the destination page. In practice most misrepresentation disapprovals come down to a claim in the ad that the landing page does not visibly support.
How long does a Google Ads appeal take?
Most appeals are resolved within one business day, and many within a few hours. Editing the ad to fix the underlying issue and resubmitting is usually faster than appealing an ad you have not changed, because an unchanged appeal is reviewed against the same policy that failed it.
Does this checker guarantee my ad will be approved?
No. It covers the policies behind the majority of disapprovals and the EU advertising-claim rules that Google review does not check at all, but Google's reviewers apply the full policy set and account history. Treat it as a pre-submission filter, not an approval.
Does it check my ad copy for EU compliance too?
The checklist flags where EU rules apply. To check the wording itself against GDPR transparency, consent and misleading-claim rules, paste the copy into the free GDPR ad copy checker, which returns the specific sentences at risk and a rewrite.
Scan the wording, not just the setup
Paste the ad into the free scanner to see which specific sentences carry misleading-claim, consent or transparency risk — with a rewrite for each.
