Meta Ad Rejections/Dating

Meta Ad Rejected for Dating: What It Means and How to Fix It

Dating is a permission-gated category on Meta: without prior written approval, even squeaky-clean copy gets rejected. And with approval, sexualized or hookup-flavoured wording still fails review. Here is which problem you have and how to fix it.

What does this Meta rejection message mean?

Your ad wasn't approved because it doesn't comply with Meta's Advertising Standards on Dating Ads. Ads for online dating services are only allowed with prior written permission from Meta and must comply with our dating targeting requirements and dating ad guidelines. Ads must target audiences 18 years or older and must not be sexually suggestive, promote sexual encounters, or emphasize transactional relationships.

Wording varies slightly by ad and account. Policy: Dating Ads.

What it actually means

There are two ways to hit this rejection. First: you are advertising a dating service without being on Meta's dating allowlist — in that case no rewrite will save the ad until you have written permission. Second: you are approved (or your product is dating-adjacent) but the copy reads as sexualized, hookup-oriented, or implies adult services. Meta's filter reacts to the wording — 'meet hot singles tonight' fails even for a mainstream, approved dating app.

Why your ad was rejected

These are the copy patterns that most often trip the dating filter.

  • Running dating ads without prior written permission

“Any ad for a dating app or matchmaking service from a non-allowlisted account.”

The most common cause — and no copy change fixes it

  • Hookup or casual-encounter framing

“Find a hookup tonight — no strings attached.”

A near-certain trigger, even for approved advertisers

  • Sexualized descriptions of potential matches

“Hot singles in your area are waiting for you.”

One of the most reliably flagged phrases in the category

  • Implying the reader's relationship status or loneliness

“Still single at 40? It's not too late.”

Frequently flagged, and it also violates Personal Attributes

  • Implied adult or transactional services

“Meet generous men. Get spoiled tonight.”

Commonly flagged and can escalate to account-level action

Before and after rewrites

Rejected

Hot singles in your area want to meet you tonight!

Compliant

A dating app for people looking for genuine relationships.

Removes the sexualized 'hot singles' framing and the implied knowledge of the reader's location and intent; describes the service.

Rejected

Still single? Find a no-strings hookup near you.

Compliant

Meet people who share your interests, at your own pace.

Drops the relationship-status assumption and the casual-encounter promise Meta's dating ad guidelines prohibit.

Rejected

Swipe, match, and get lucky this weekend.

Compliant

Swipe, match, and start a real conversation.

Replaces the sexual innuendo with a neutral product action while keeping the same rhythm and CTA.

How to fix and resubmit

  1. 1Confirm you have Meta's written permission to run dating ads; if not, apply for dating-category approval first — rewrites alone will not clear the rejection.
  2. 2Remove hookup, casual-encounter, and 'tonight' urgency framing from headlines and body copy.
  3. 3Cut sexualized descriptions of matches ('hot', 'naughty', 'get lucky') and any implied-adult wording.
  4. 4Rewrite lines that assume the reader is single, lonely, or of a certain age into descriptions of what the app offers, and make sure the ad set targets audiences 18 or older.
  5. 5Re-scan the copy, then edit and resubmit — re-review usually completes within 24 hours. If you are an approved dating advertiser and the copy is clean, request a manual review via Business Support Home (formerly Account Quality).

Frequently asked questions

How do I get Meta's written permission for dating ads?

You apply through the application form linked from Meta's Dating Ads policy page. Meta reviews the service against its dating ad guidelines — services emphasizing sexual encounters, transactional dating, affairs, or fictitious profiles are not approved. Until approval lands, dating ads will be rejected regardless of copy.

My app is approved — why was the ad still rejected?

Permission covers the category, not the creative. Each ad must still pass the dating ad guidelines: no sexualized copy or imagery, no hookup framing, no implied knowledge of the reader's relationship status. Rewrite the flagged wording and resubmit.

How long does re-review take after I edit the ad?

Edited ads re-enter review automatically, usually within 24 hours. If the rejection is for missing category permission rather than copy, re-review will fail again until your authorization is granted.

Will dating-policy rejections hurt my ad account?

Repeatedly attempting to run unauthorized dating ads, or ads that imply adult services, can restrict your account or revoke category access. One copy-level rejection will not, but fix the pattern rather than testing variants of the same wording.

Does the dating policy apply on Instagram too?

Yes. The dating standards and the written-permission requirement apply across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and the Audience Network. An unauthorized or sexualized dating ad is rejected on every placement.
